    • The property is south of Interstate 85, just off Meadowbrook Drive.
    • Dempsey Clark Brown (1809-1889) was a farmer. He was married to Hannah Eliza Mock Brown (1815-1862) and Eliza Ann Laughlin Brown (1835-1909), whom he married in 1866.
    • A deed from 1837 shows him buying 10 acres “on waters of Uwharrie.” Census records show him owning nine slaves in 1850 and 17 in 1860.
    • The Architectural History of Randolph County: “This is one of the earliest surviving brick structures in Randolph County; an inscribed brick near the front door dates it 1836. Oddly, however, the outstanding interior woodwork seems to date from an earlier period.
    • “The exterior has been completely stuccoed at some time, although brickwork visible under the porch is laid in 1:5 common bond.
    • “The pylon supports of the porch date from ca. 1935 alterations as do the 1/1 window sash. Sawn Federal-style dentil work decorates the gable and cornice.
