2024 Grant Program in Burlington Taking Applications from Historic-Home Owners

Owners of historic properties in Burlington have until March 15 to apply for this year’s Historic Property Grant Program. The program is operated by Preservation Burlington.

Highlights of the program:

  • The program helps owners of historically and architecturally significant buildings to pay for projects that maintain the character of their historic exteriors.
  • Grants can cover up to 50 percent of the cost of historically appropriate exterior improvements, with a maximum of $5,000 per project. Grants are competitive and award amounts are variable.
  • Eligible owner-occupied residential properties must be historic buildings listed individually listed as local, state or national landmarks or contributing properties within one of Burlington’s six National Register historic districts.
  • Eligible income/business properties must historic buildings individually listed as local, state or national landmarks or contributing properties in or within two blocks of any of Burlington’s six National Register historic districts. Income-producing properties may or may not be owner-occupied.

Special consideration is given to projects making use of original materials, avoiding removal of stable historical elements and exhibiting high-quality work to enhance, restore, and/or stabilize the historic building as viewed from the street.
